Christmas Ornaments for Ilah
It's official. Thanksgiving day has passed and now it's onto Christmas. Although it seems that this year the two holidays overlapped. I began seeing Christmas trees and decorations going up in local stores as early as late September/early October this year. Retailers have been promoting the Christmas holiday quite early hoping to wheel in profits. I also started seeing Christmas wreaths on doors, and lights on houses, weeks ago. And radio stations began playing Christmas carols days before turkey's had even gone in the ovens.
While even though I haven't yet flipped my calendar page to December 1, I'll join the masses of people who love the spirit of the Christmas holiday and are happy that it's arrived.
I just adore the below Christmas ornaments {from Crate and Barrel}. I think it would be sweet for Ilah to have her own Christmas tree that she can decorate and then in true fashion, tell everyone about the tree that she did "all by herself"! Of course she could also help mommy and daddy decorate the big tree too! Perhaps we would place under her little pint size tree all of her Christmas presents that are from Jesus!These ornaments, while being oh-so-cute, are also a tad bit on the pricey side {perhaps that's the bargain shopper in me coming out}. I'm not sure I want to chance that they will still be in stock after Christmas at a fraction of the cost so I may just bite the bullet and order a variety of these lovelies:

Dining Room Table with Benches
Our dining room table has 6 individual chairs that seats...well, 6 people! Ha! But I just love the striking look of dining room tables with benches. Below are some gorgeous dining room spaces that make me want to pull up to the table...whether I'm sitting on a chair or on a bench!
Image Source: Dish on DesignA Bit of How the Weekend Went
All weekend.
Not with the flu {got the shots}. Not with a cold.
Just my usual pregnancy sickness.
It was h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e.
I decided to lay off of my continual Chipotle fix and nourish myself properly this weekend. For lunch on Saturday we had seasoned baked chicken, rice, corn and broccoli and it was yummy. As you can see, the meal was nothing fancy but it was a nice nutritious homemade meal. I had leftovers on Sunday and it hit the spot once again.
When my husband woke up from his mid-afternoon cat nap on Saturday, he had a nice plate of hot, fresh banana bread sliced up waiting for him....
I packaged my mom's bread in wax paper and wrapped it pretty. I'll be seeing her today.

I have a kitchen drawer full of torn out recipes, taken from various magazines, that I've held onto through the years. The banana bread recipe is from Cooking Light {I modified it just a tad and got the recipe for the crunchy topping elsewhere}. I personally don't like banana bread - which is odd because I like banana's. But I enjoy making the bread for others : )
EDIT: Below is the recipe for those that would like it!
Ingredients
2/3 cup sugar {I also add 1/4 cup of brown sugar}
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup egg substitute or 1 large egg white
1 large egg {I usually just use one egg and skip the above}
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons cream of tartar {if not on hand, I ommit it and the bread tastes the same}
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Preparation
Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl; beat with a mixer at medium speed until smooth.
Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups, and level with a knife. Combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add the flour mixture to banana mixture, stirring just until moist {then I add in cinnamon and nutmeg to the mixture}. Spoon the batter into an 8 x 4-inch loaf pan coated with cooking spray.
Bake at 350° for 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan on a wire rack; remove from pan. Cool completely on rack.
Topping:
In small bowl, mix together 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon {I always add more!}, 1 tablespoon of butter. Cut into the tablespoon of butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Sprinkle topping over bread mixture before placing in the oven.

My Doctor's Take on Birth Plans
I think I would totally take him up on that offer, just to see if he really would do it, IF it wasn't for the fact that he will be the first person that my child will see when she's out of the womb and she may turn around and climb back into my uterus if she sees this scary bright yellow furry bird gripping her to come towards the light....
But I still may ask my Doctor to cluck like a chicken for kicks.

An Eventful Day
My husband took a few pictures of me when we returned home...

We spent a few hours "out and about" after my appointment and by then my feet were aching! I remembered that we received a foot spa as a wedding gift and if there was any time to use it, it was tonight! So the hubby got it out, set it up, and prepared my footsies for a nice soak.
This belly of mine sure is getting big!!!

Now I have my feet in my slippers!! Dinner is in the oven and we're about to tune in to "Flash Forward"....and at 10 p.m., "The Real Housewives of Orange County"....Whoo-hooo!!!
Baby News
- Today is my 32 week check-up with my Doctor and we will be having a 4D ultrasound done today!! Yay!! The last ultrasound we had was at 20 weeks when we found out that I was carrying a girl. We are SO excited to see Ilah and how big she has gotten!! This ultrasound will be recorded on DVD so we will have a precious keepsake of this special time in our lives.
- My belly is getting ginormous. I feel it. My husband sees it. More pregnancy pictures to come. For the past three weeks I've been gorging on food that isn't so healthy. Can't help it. I've been giving into pregnancy cravings more than I probably should. But heck, with all that I'm going through I feel I deserve it!
- For the past few weeks I've been feeling Ilah hiccup. I think it's so incredible to be able to be in tune with my baby as she continues to grow. I have a feeling that she is most likely in a head-down position now; when she hiccups I feel it in my lower pelvis. We will find out today if she's made the turn!
- Ilah's nursery is nearly completed. Her custom crib bedding is in the works and I should receive it in about 4 weeks. It was fun going with my mom to pick out all the fabric {thanks Mom for buying it all! I've loved all the moments of sharing this pregnancy with you!}. The bedding is going to be so beautiful; I can't wait until it's in place! Pictures to come when her room is all completed!
- I have posted about being on the fence about taking childbirth classes. The location that the classes are offered at aren't real close to our house and we dreaded sitting through an 8 hour weekend course. I was going to skip childbirth classes all together but then I thought that labor and delivery isn't something that I should go into blindly. So while even though I haven't taken "lamaze classes" per-say, we have been watching a series of online classes that are really informative and have proven to be beneficial to watch.
- About two weeks ago my husband set up our travel system and the car seat is about to be installed in the car!
- My mom and I went to Babies-R-Us last Friday and purchased SO MUCH STUFF!!! I feel truly blessed that even though I decided to forgo a baby shower that little Ilah is being showered with every single necessity that she needs...big and small {thanks to our parents}. Every time Ilah gets something I tell her to look through mommy's peep-hole {my belly button - ha!} to get a sneak peak at all her goodies!
- Last Saturday we did a tour of the labor and delivery unit at the hospital where I will be giving birth. I highly encourage every expectant mother to do a tour; it really put my mind at ease to visually see where I will be delivering and to hear the processes of what will go on when "that day" comes. It was also great to able to ask lots of questions...and get answers directly from hospital staff. They shared SO MUCH information. It also built our excitement all the more to soon be welcoming our little girl into the world!!
- I have filled out all hospital pre-registration forms and will be mailing them today {one less thing to have to worry about on the day of. Just wheel me into my room because all forms have already been filled out!}
- I called my insurance company yesterday to get answers to my list of questions, some of which were: Is epidural covered? Is all costs covered if baby ends up in NICU?, How long can I stay in the hospital if having a vaginal delivery or a c-section? Do I need to pre-certify before my hospital stay? Are hospital meals covered?, Do you require a copy of baby's birth certificate to prove delivery?, and some other questions. Doing the hospital tour really prepared me for what questions to ask my insurance company; the tour guide emphasized that the above questions were most imperative to find out since you don't want a surprise bill when it comes time to check-out. It's imperative to know in advance what insurance does and does not cover and I wanted to get all this verified sooner rather than later because you never know when baby could decide to want out and I'd rather have a peace of mind going into the hospital. Thank God that I have great insurance. Aside from a $250 deductible, everything is 100% covered {yes, EVERYTHING}.
As the weeks continue to pass, and I get closer and closer to my due date, we are all so anxious to meet this little girl who will bring so much love into our lives! While there is so much to do to prepare for a baby, I don't think you can truly prepare for how much your life will change in such an astounding way. The miracle of life is an extraordinary thing to partake in. To finally hold in our arms the child that God allowed us to create will surely be an overwhelming feeling. Ilah has our heart, and unconditional love, already - and we cannot wait to begin cherishing her.

Oh, How I Wish
While my husband and I were cleaning out the garage this past weekend, I came across my flight itinerary from my 2004 trip. This was a few years before I met my husband - obviously I really want to return to my most special place on earth with him and soak in the beauty of Italy hand- in-hand...one gelato at a time.
2010 is undoubtedly going to be a busy one with a new baby to love and care for so we have made it a goal that in 2011 we would make a trip to Italy. My husband is just as excited to be bound for Italy as I am to return there. In the meantime, I keep tuning into House Hunters International and get my Italy fix whenever they show people buying apartments, homes, villas, or farm houses there. I love seeing the properties that they view, getting a sense of what they cost, and then seeing which one they chose {seeing the end result of a remodel project - whether big or small - is cool to see as well}. As I'm watching, I have total envy by the way!!
It would be an absolute dream come true if we owned a second home in Rome. An apartment. Nothing big. Nothing fancy. But boy would it be expensive! To own an apartment in the city center of Rome you need to have a lot of $$$$$. And the currency conversion from the Euro to the dollar is sadly not in our favor.
But let's play pretend.
Let's say we found a place in a building like the one below. Let's say it was a modest apartment at approximately 1,000 square feet. Let's say we bought it while it was in it's worst shape, therefore got a good deal on it, and took on the challenge of a remodel {by knocking out walls that formed small boxy roooms and opened up the place making it a beautiful apartment}.
Our home now consists of decor that is in warm earth tone colors. In the apartment I would do something different and fresh and incorporate a warm hue of blue throughout the apartment. I would replicate the look of the below living room {minus the sailboat and seashells on the table, Ha!}. The livingroom itself isn't fairly large but it shows how you can make a small space look beautiful, inviting, and still have lots of seating. And in a 1,000 sq ft apartment this is key!
Most Italian apartments/homes {and hotels which were formerly palaces} have wooden beams on the ceilings. I love the look and would want it especially incorporated in the kitchen area:
The below kitchen is considered WAY BIG by Italian standards for a modestly sized apartment. So while I really love the look of this one, it would be scaled down to size - but still be just as pretty even if it was cut in half!
Most small apartments in Italy have eat-in kitchens that may just fit two people. But let's pretend that while remodeling our little apartment we made a space for a dining area that would look like this one:
Our bedroom would look like this:
And since most Italian apartments don't have adequate closet space {or any closet space at all}, we would have inexpensive wardrobe units like these {in chocolate brown from Ilkea} in every bedroom:
